We’d like to invite you to an exciting equine event happening in Houston County, MN!
The National Association of Competitive Mounted Orienteering (NACMO) is hosting two Mounted Orienteering Rides at Outback Ranch in Houston, MN on June 28 & 29, 2025.
What is Mounted Orienteering? It’s a unique and engaging sport that combines horseback riding with map and compass navigation. Riders follow a marked course—solo or in teams—choosing between a short course (5 objectives) or long course (10 objectives), with distances ranging from 5 to 25 miles.
Participants use maps, clues, and a compass to find hidden Objective Stations spread across varied terrain, including trails and off-trail areas.
Whether you're new to the sport or have experience, everyone is welcome. It’s a supportive environment and a great learning experience for horse enthusiasts of all ages.
A pre-ride practice session will be available.
NACMO events are recognized by the PFHA as part of the PFHA Sport Horse Program.
We hope to see you there!

MAPFHA THT Clinic Recap: A Weekend of Growth & Connection
Dates: May 31 – June 1 Location: RnR Ranch, Houston County, MN
We were thrilled to host an unforgettable weekend at the MAPFHA THT Clinic, held at the beautiful RnR Ranch under sunny skies and warm 70-degree weather—perfect conditions for learning and riding!
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our clinician, Tracy Porter, whose depth of knowledge, clarity in teaching, and supportive guidance created an engaging and enriching experience for all participants. Tracy’s thoughtful approach helped riders of all levels gain confidence and build stronger bonds with their horses.
Over the two-day clinic, attendees focused on key horsemanship skills, including:
- Shoulder and haunch control (both in-hand and under saddle)
- Softening and leg-yielding techniques
- Confident and correct mounting block practices
- Trust-building exercises using obstacle work
- Groundwork and patterns to improve communication and responsiveness
The progress we saw—both in technique and in trust between horse and rider—was nothing short of inspiring.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the supportive and positive atmosphere. Events like these are what strengthen our horsemanship community!
